La Grand Orchestre Du Comptoir De Marrakech ? formata dai musicisti che suonano al Comptoir Darna, famoso locale di Marrakech di propriet? di Claude Challe (l’ideatore del Buddah Bar e delle sue compilation).

Sul repertorio tradizionale dell’orchestra Nicolas Mingot, Pimpi Arroyo e Jamal Slitine hanno lavorato con l’intento di rendere pi? appetibili all’orecchio occidentale melodie e sonorit? lontane: riff di fiati, tappeti di sintetizzatori, ritmi dance e sound jazz fanno da sfondo o contrappunto a melodie dal sapore arabo e suoni di strumenti acustici.

Il risultato ? buono dove il tessuto melodico, lasciato agli strumenti tradizionali, viene sostenuto da un arrangiamento “occidentale” creando dei brani movimentati e trascinanti o quando spunti melodici jazz (Take Khamsa) o classici (Symphonuit) si alternano ai tipici andamenti melodici dell’Orchestra; le tracce dove prevale la voce risultano pi? piatte e simili tra loro, poco convincenti, affogate in un’atmosfera liquida.

Prodotto discontinuo quindi, che risente di una rielaborazione a freddo a tratti forzata, quasi obbligata a far coesistere due mondi musicali lontani: meglio sarebbe stato un lavoro con un minor numero di tracce, ma pi? accurato.
